My Flour Bin.
For many years served as storage for all kinds of linens and kitchen paraphernalia in our previous country house.
It now holds extra bedding in our basement.

Also called Grain Bin.
It's original purpose was to keep mice and other vermin out of the stored flour and grain. The lid props open, on top is a shelf which used to hold the big wooden scoop.
When I purchased it from an Antiques Dealer it housed large oil paintings.
posted this morning an Irish short Film by Tony O. Donoghue which won the prize for "Best Animated Short Film" at Sundance Film Festival 2013.

Park City and Sundance is just over the hill from our town.
One of the many furniture pieces featured in this film is an interview with a maker of Flour Bins or what we call in this part of the world,
a Grain Bin.
If you watch carefully, during that part of the interview, you will see a little mouse scurrying to and under the Flour Bin. The bin that is supposed to keep the little devils out of the food supply.
Have a lovely day my dear

When I go overseas this summer to visit the old
ReplyDeletefamily home, I must go to the basement.
There sits a big wooden bin filled with old tools and things. It has no lid and I have often wondered what it might have been used for. Maybe
it is just another grain bin waiting to be dis-
covered...........Thanks, Gina, for sharing the
lovely animated short.Love that opening shot.
Afternoon greetings, Sieglinde
I viewed the film short at Alan's Surface Fragments, and it's charming. I hope all your readers get a chance to see it!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think Mark? Did the film makers add that little white mouse? I think they did. Mice are usually not so white and not nearly that big.
DeleteOh, absolutely I think the mice were animated, and that's my favorite part of the film, along with the furniture making their own way to the refinisher's!
DeleteDear Sieglinde, Who knows what treasures you might find once you start looking around. Take pictures so we can have fun along with you.
