Wild Geese gather first
They fly in every morning.
I don't know where they spend the night.
All day long they go back and forth...to the plowed field, and then again to the Pond.
This happens every year.
One day, they all fly away.
And then come the wild ducks.
Hundreds of them. They will stay all winter.
Sheep don't have a choice.
These yearlings don't know that they are supposed to mind the dogs.
And that confuses the dogs AND the sheep.

feeding ground. After reading about the habits of wild geese I wonder if there is a river or another body of water in the area where they go to roost. How glad I am not to have to change location between meals and rest.

Dear Sieglinde, No doubt you are right. We have a lot of bodies of water around us. As the days and nights get colder most of that open water will freeze. What is amazing is that the geese know when to fly south. They pick a different date every year. Colder weather must be in store for us.

ReplyDeleteDear Rosemary, chunky is right. I noticed the same thing. These yearlings have filled out nicely. They will remain in this valley for 2 more weeks and then they are taken to the west desert towards Nevada. They will spend the winter there.
