We're going to Italy

But not together

It came out of my kiln this morning.
It will soon be on it's way to Panicale, Umbria in Italy.

Mr G and I will leave a few weeks later, and arrive about the same time as the tile, only the tile is going to Umbria and we are going to Bolzano in the Alto Adige, Italy.

Where the Market place will be aglow with the smells, sounds and sights of the Christkindl  Markt.

And more Christmas Markets to visit in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Linz and Regensburg and many sights along the "Romantic Strasse"  and the "Castle Road."

And a little side trip to Berching.
Have you heard of Berching?  I will show you pictures when I return.  It's a very special place.

The House Tile?

Most likely, I will never see again.

Have a great week my dear Friends.

  1. Would I be correct in guessing that you might include a ceramics workshop in your Italian tour? Have a wonderful trip!

    1. Dear Mark, No, not this time. Giving Mr G a break. He can only drink so many cups of coffee and only admire so many beautiful girls while waiting for me, moving paint around.

  2. Ooh, that crystal-clear blue night sky in Rothenburg during the Christmas Market looks so inviting! My memories of Christmas during my stay in Germany come back when I see photos like yours! Enjoy your visit and keep us in the 'loop' so we can enjoy your sites from afar!

    1. Hello Mary, We will see how many Christmas markets we can visit without getting too much of a good thing. Just in case we are planning to visit a few frescoes along the way.

  5. Dear Gina - I remembered that you were heading off on a big trip to Italy and Germany very soon and celebrating a special occasion whilst away.
Bolzano I know reasonably well as we have visited it twice - Alto Adige is a beautiful part of Italy.
It should be magical at such a special time of the year - have a really wonderful and memorable visit.

    1. Dear Rosemary, Thank you for your good wishes. We have been to Bolzano in all seasons. It IS a very special place. Always so much to see and do. This time we will be searching for old frescoes in forgotten castles.

  6. Gina, I looked up all those wonderful places you will visit on this upcoming trip - it will be an amazing time I'm certain. Do you plan to drive between these places? Bolzano is new to me but I know I would love it - frescoes in 'forgotten castles' would get me there in a heartbeat!!
I've visited all of Tuscany, also Rome and Venice, but there are so many more parts of Italy I hope to see. Now that my expedition travels are probably over, I hope to have time to see more of Europe with Bob.............and a return to Italy is definitely on the list. I've never visited Germany other than Frankfurt airport! Want to go there to.

Let us know when you are leaving - if I send my list could you do my Christmas shopping at one of those beautiful markets please? Just kidding - one year I must do that also.
This will be such a great trip - know we will see beautiful photos later.
    Hugs - stay safe.
    Mary

    1. Dear Mary, We almost always drive while in Europe. Often, we don't even have reservations. That gives us the freedom to make decisions at the spur of the moment. This year, however, because we are celebrating a special date, we have reservations in a couple of special cities and special hotels. Bolzano is one of them. We go there quite often. When you are ready to travel that part of the world, we will put our heads together and come up with a great plan.
Oh, and about that list, you never know. ox, Gina
