Important Meeting up ahead

The Meeting is at 8:00 o'clock sharp.

The first Tuesday of every month.

Their shirts identify them as
"The Old Geezers"

ahh, I mean the "Friendly Philosophers"

The old Squirt Building is on the left.

The rest of our important buildings.

Arrived at the Meetin House

People come from far and wide,
the vittles are formidable.

There are plans to have a pulling contest.

More Philosophers on the inside.

By the end of the morning they will have all problems solved.

Have a great week dear friends.

  1. Dear Gina,
This sounds like a promising get-together, especially with an outcome of "all problems solved". I wish it could be so........... I wonder what kind of breakfast was on the table, Bauernfrühstück, yummy, or a soft boiled egg with Brötchen, or Opa's Omelette???
Wonderful photos and a very handsome Mr.G.
    Greetings, Sieglinde

    1. Dear Sieglinde, Yes, wouldn't it be wonderful if all of the worlds problems could be solved at the breakfast table. I would give anything to have a Brötchen with fresh unsalted butter and marmelade served to me for breakfast. However, it does serve Opa's many contributions to the every day menu.

  2. Dear Gina - this all looks something completely new to my eyes. Mr. G must make a very early start to get there so early in the morning on a tractor or may be the journey is not too long, but I bet boys and their tractors have a great time together. With a name like Das Cafe do they serve German food?

    1. Dear Rosemary, By 6:30 in the morning Mr G has already completed 36 lengths in an Olympic size swimming pool. And Das Cafe is only a mile from our house. We live in a very small town. Until a few years ago we didn't even have a cafe. Two very hardworking and enterprising young sisters had a marvelous idea. Even though they are only open for breakfast and lunch, they have made it a resounding success. They serve a combination of American dishes along with German specialties. I can't believe that so many people love sauerkraut or maybe it's Opa's Fantastic carrot cake that keeps them coming back.

  3. Looks to me as if Das Cafe is a perfect meeting place, for philosophers and others, too.

How grand that the two sisters came up with a wise idea and have had such success. Being open for breakfast and lunch seems so clever. (I will admit that I'm no sauerkraut fan, but carrot cake would pull me in to Das Cafe easily.

    1. Dear Frances, You must bring a few friends with you...you will need them to help you eat this giant slice of the most delicious carrot cake. Who knows you might even like THEIR Sauerkraut, it is very different from the usual just out-of-the-jar and heated Sauerkraut.

The sisters have young families so they have decided that they must be there when they come home from school. Another good idea.

    1. Hello Mary, Living in a very small farm community has many rewards. Taking a tractor to see friends is one of them.
thank you for your visit. I am always so pleased to see you here.

  5. Beautiful pictures Gina. They really capture Sanpete at it's finest. I miss the coziness almost as much as the people. Sending love from Vernal :)

  6. Those are the coolest tractors and your photography is fabulous. I just recently read about a little restaurant like this close to our home that I hope we can visit soon.

  8. What great images, Gina — they show the character of your area, and of the residents there. The tractors lined up remind me of my childhood in Pennsylvania-Dutch country, and of seeing all the Amish buggys in a row. The fake store front is a real hoot — I'd be tempted to erect the fronts up and down the whole street!

    1. Dear Mark, I cheated a little with my photographs. I added an overlay which gave them an antique look.
As in most small towns we have the good with the bad. But what we do have are beautiful old stone buildings built with stones from a nearby quarry. The most stunning of all of our stone buildings is our historic Mormon Church. It is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.
You must have had a very interesting childhood. I have always wanted to visit the Pennsylvania-Dutch country in order to observe their way of life.
