The first roses and an update

It's a struggle

to grow roses at this high desert location.

And it's a struggle for little calves who are abandoned by their mothers.
April has tried to adopt the little orphan but she only has enough milk for her own calf, a little bull calf.

In the meantime April provides security.
My little charge comes running when she sees me
(or the big milk bottle I'm carrying).

She lives not far from my house.

And she has a brother who was born a day later.

So, all is well.
A few of my roses made it through the winter and my little calf is thriving.

Have a great week ahead dear friends.

  1. Oo I love these little calves, I have grown up with cattle so I like this. It must be fun when she comes up running to you for the bottle of milk. I always admire your colourful photos, love those cushions on the sofa behind the roses, just beautiful!

  2. That's terrific that you had your camera ready and got that shot that just really made me smile! You are a great Mother, Gina! Give your calf a rub on the head for me!

    1. Dear Rosemary, I am so glad that the two calves like each other. They have such a jolly time jumping over each other. It's interesting that the calf without a mother comes to see me, the other stays behind with her mother...Pavlov is right again.

    1. Dear Frances, It seems to be working. Bothe calves are doing well. When it comes to color, my gypsy ways are coming through again.
