An extra Bed

Visitors are coming, we desperately need another bed.

Let's clean out the garage!

Hurriedly paint the bare walls and stamp a garland over the bed space.
(stamps  cut from old computer mouse pads).
That takes care of the headboard.

Now look for anything that hasn't been used in many years, anything you can find.  Cover rickety tables with pretty fabrics, add a few schatzkies, fresh flowers and a couple of old lamps and scatter a few rugs on the bare cement floor.
Ignore anything utilitarian.

Everyone loved it, were fighting over who was going to sleep in the garage and who was going to sleep in the guest quarters.

Wishing you a happy and safe week,
Gina

  1. Love the garland over the bed! I'd fight to sleep there, too.

  2. Goodness me Gina nobody would ever want to sleep in our garage - for a start it is freezing cold in there. Your garage looks really palatial especially with all of your lovely artistic touches.

    1. Dear Rosemary,
You should see the other garage. It was the end of May, nice and warm with blue skies and birds singing.

  3. Dear Lorrie, It's amazing what a little paint can do. And after all, it's only paint.

  4. You are so clever, Gina! Why not fix up a garage for guests? My mother did that each summer when I had to return home to find a new leasee for our house (we were living in the midwest, then). My daughter had I had a folding double bed that was separated from the rest of the garage by a large 2x4 = built 4' x 4' set of shelves my father had constructed for storage. Mother added a sheet that hung over it and added a Poster from the local production of My Fair Lady for ambiance! I very infrequently would go out there and rest on the bed and read when my mother would take a nap and my father and my daughter would go to the nearby city park! Your "remodel" was far superioe to ours - but hey - all we needed was a place to sleep! Life goes on...

    1. Dear Mary,
See how clever you and your mother are. Your mother even added a Poster from your local My Fair Lady production. I can see you enjoying the afternoon breeze while reading a good book and taking a nap now and then. You must have beautiful memories of those lazy days.

  5. Hello Gina,

Well, we do not have a garage to fix up, but if we did, we should call upon your services in an instant.

Like magic you have repurposed your garage into a haven for guests with such an eye for style. We suspect that you did not have to move out a motor car, old tins of paint, a washing machine, and decades of detritus from half finished projects and 'things which may come in handy one day'. Or, perhaps, you have another garage that can be a garage whilst this one can double up as something else whenever the need arises.

Whatever, we love the transformation. Perhaps the garage could become a second kitchen next time, or a bedroom with ensuite or, even, a home cinema. We have absolute faith that you could turn the room into anything you would wish. Now, there's an idea...

We found you via Rosemary and have so enjoyed our visit. We will return for more.

  6. Hello Jane and hello Lance,
How did you know about the many secrets my garage holds. Yes, I had to move out a motor car. However, detritus of half finished projects abound... but in the other garage. Twice a year, when our town celebrates, my garage also becomes my studio where shelves upon shelves hold all manner of hand painted ceramics and where I also demonstrate the art of painting maiolica.
I don't think that I will live long enough to try out all of your ideas but I will take note.
Welcome back to blogland. I always enjoyed reading your posts in the past.

    1. Thank you for your kind reply. Ahhh...two garages... that is the key! We love the sound of your ceramics and shall look forward to your presenting them here.

    2. Dear Hattatt's,
Not often do I feature my ceramics in a blog post...don't want to appear trying to sell my wares. However you can see some of my ceramics in my Etsy shop, just click on the little Etsy square at the top right of my blog.
Or, here is a link to one of my blog posts.
