Color, Color.

Everywhere.

Salpiglossis, Nemesias, Skyblue Petunias and Poppies are blooming in my Garden.

Not enough time

It's all right.

I love what I see even if it isn't perfect.

Wild roses seeking support.

Salpiglossis are a challenge.

Poppies are amazing.

Yank out the entire plant, singe the stem and every poppy head will open. 

A poppy bouquet for a week. 

More rain than usual brought on the berries.

I have eaten the rest. 

I can grow figs in Utah ...in my greenhouse.

Nasturtiums grow easily from seed.

Who can resist an Opium Poppy?

The hay barns will be filled to the rafters.  

We will most likely have 3 crops of Alfalfa this year, 

who knows, maybe even four.

They never dissapoint

Each year they bloom larger and stronger

My tuberous begonias  are more than 15 years old. 

They take a long nap in the dark and under a bench in my greenhouse. 

They have never been fed nor have they been repotted.  

Poppies volunteer.

I never know where they will pop up next. 

So green this year.  We had a lot of rain this Spring.

Salpiglossis have to be seeded every year. 

The pie cherries are just turning color. 

So far, the birds have not discovered them.  

Every fruit tree is laden with fruit.  Only the apples are taking a break

(they do that every other year). 

And miracles upon miracles, our 25 year old apricot tree is covered with fruit for the first time ever.

Thank Goodness for my little Greenhouse

Over the years I have discovered that many of my garden flowers do well in my winter greenhouse. 

Early in the year I pot up a few annuals such as poppies, snapdragons, petunias, pansies and especially nasturtiums.  They bloom all Summer outside and continue blooming in my winter greenhouse.

  

My "antique" plate, painted in 2005, is still around.  Just couldn't part with it.  It has all the right flaws.  

This petunia changes yellow and red combinations, all on the same plant.  Sometimes they tend do be a solid red, then they change to a solid yellow and often they are a combination of both and in different patterns. 

When all else fails my geraniums never stop blooming.  I must take new cuttings to rejuvenate some of the more special colors.

That is an Opium Poppy,  (papaver somniferum).

When I was a very young girl I spent a lot of time out in the country side gathering food for our many rabbits. 

Sooner or later I would run into a Poppy field. 

Often the pods were almost ripe but not quite. 

I would open a pod, empty the many seeds into my hand and hold my hand up toward the sun. 

Within seconds the unripe and green seeds would turn into black poppy seeds. 

Yes those innocent looking black seeds.  The kind you would sprinkle onto baked breads, cookies and cakes. 

As soon as the seeds turned black I would eat them.
All of them. 

All at once. 

I told no one.

Sunday, Sunday.

Flowers make me happy. 

Especially those which grow in my very own garden.

I can visit with my flowers every day.

Poppies are one of my most favorite flowers. 

When using Poppies in arrangements, you must remember to singe their stems for 30 seconds. 

Foxglove the same. Singe their stems.  This time a little longer.  

The thicker the stem, the longer it takes. 

Burn over candle flame. 

I burn several flowers at a time, on top of my gas range.  

What is more pleasing then making the rounds in the early morning, coffee cup in hand.

How many can you name?

Making the Rounds this morning

Making the rounds.

Early this morning.

Sunflowers reaching for the sun.

Showing off against the blue sky. 

Clyde, Lola and Hansel are happy.

Do you recognize these?

I make the most delicious pancake syrup from them.

Cosmos are the first to bloom in my wild patch.

Chickens are happy that I'm sharing our garden greens.

No wonder this chard is called "Bright Lights".

Can't wait for the fennel to mature, for the basil to grow some more so we can make pesto, beans will be ready in a week, savoy cabbage has been enjoyed for several weeks, Parsley is ready for drying.

Annual Poppies are popping up everywhere.

Sunflowers make fine bouquets.

Even when paired with vegetables.

Or all by themselves.
