My Geese walk on water.

I mean, they walk on frozen water.

There is a lot of chatter out there.

The cold and snow caught them by surprise.

It was 2 degrees Fahrenheit (that is minus 16.67 Celsius) last night.

No wonder most of our pond is frozen.

A small area, where the water comes from deep within, always stays open.

Hansel, Clyde and Lola can't decide who they should befriend.

By late afternoon, most of the ice will have melted.

All will be afloat again.

Hope you're staying afloat.

Gina

  1. Dear Gina,

I can imagine that some of those geese were walking around saying, "What the #?!&%!!"

I hope your plumbing doesn't freeze. When I lived in Pennsylvania, and extra cold weather rolled in, we'd always turn the water on to a teeny drip, so that the pipes wouldn't freeze.

    1. Dear Mark, We are so used to cold weather and below freezing temperatures that we have used that old trick in the weekend cottage we had many years ago. It does work.
What I don't like is that the cold came so early. Even the waterfowl didn't have time to organize themselves.

  2. Dear Gina,
Looking at these wonderful photos of your frozen pond under a blue sky these lines come to mind: " The snow below the azure skies, as though a magic carpet lies..........." I am so glad you are sharing this magnificent landscape with us.
    Stay warm, Sieglinde

    1. Dear Sieglinde, I don't mind providing a rest stop for hundreds of waterfowl but they act as if they want to stay until Spring. I need to go out and clap my hands and flail my arms so that they head south to greener pastures.

  3. …..yes, we'll be leaving our taps dripping tonight, going to be SOOOOOO cold!! Fire already built on the hearth - Netflix should arrive today - we'll be snug for the evening hours!
Lovely pics of your many feathered visitors Gina - H,C and L certainly have playmates galore!
Quite a lot of snow on your balustrade - we've not had any yet and can wait patiently for perhaps a dusting come January!

Such lovely views - you are blessed in that lovely part of America.
    Hugs - Mary

    1. Dear Mary, We are so lucky in that we have heated floors and three wood burning fireplaces. Even though it is very cold the snow is slowly melting during the day when the sun is shining. I am happy to see so many birds coming our way but they need to move south to their winter places or they will get left behind.
We moved from the city to the country 20 years ago and can't believe our lucky stars to have found this beautiful piece of property. And to build a new house on it was the icing on the cake.

    1. Dear Val, Yes, we are cozy inside. The snow came early this year. I don't mind the snow so much it's the freezing temperatures, so early this year, that I am not crazy about. Soon it will warm up a little and hopefully, I can still plant all those tulips I ordered so late in the season.
Thank you for your visit. It is always so nice to hear from you.
