Thanksgiving and Christmas without candles?

Oh no.


Shall we make them special? 

Why not add a little gold.

You will need a few sheets of gold leaf and a bottle of 
size (glue).

All available in any craft store. 

Size (rabbit skin glue) comes in small bottles. 

  Pour a small amount of glue into a plastic container.

Brush on glue to lower part of candle. 
Wait about 30 minutes until glue is slightly tacky. 
Stays tacky for several hours.  

Lay gold leaf sheets onto candle. 
Polish with soft cloth or sheepskin.

While you wait for the glue to dry on candles why not gild a few acorns...it's the same technique. 

After gilding the candle you can scribe a scrolling pattern into the goldleaf with the handle of a paint brush.  

See how special. A few candles with gold leaf, a few pomanders,  and fresh greens and a centerpiece is born.

Serendipity

It happens to me all the time.

Look at that Patina!

On the blue-green candles. 

To make candles more special I often apply gold leaf to them. 

 This time I added gold leaf to the lower half of a dark blue candle.  And added a few dried flowers to the middle. 

I wrapped the candles, two at a time,  into clear plastic and tied them with ribbons, ready to give as gifts. 

And then I forgot about them. 

The gold turned into this fantastic textural blue. 

Even if I tried I don't think that I could duplicate the magic.

The best way to get into the Christmas Spirit

Is to sit down with a cup of tea, or a glass of mulled wine,

assemble oranges, cloves and a knitting needle. 

And make a few Pomanders.

They add just the right festive touch.

 Nothing, except maybe a fresh Christmas tree, says welcome more than the scent of oranges studded with cloves.  

A simple plate with a few candles and pomanders make for an instant centerpiece. 

A few simply painted wooden hearts add to the merriment.  

Yes, don't be shy, paint them yourself.  All you need are a few wooden hearts and acrylic paints.

While the paint is still wet why not add a few circles and dots to clear glass Christmas balls. 

Or glue on paper scraps.  

Toss a few golden acorns (remember, you made them last week) into the melange and you're set for Christmas.

Orchids don't have to be white.

They can be red or yellow or purple.

Serving Platters don't have to be plain.

  

I can add your initials.

Or I can add your family crest. 

It will make you feel special.

Or a simple garland.

  With just a touch of Gold

Christmas decorations don't have to be new.



They have more meaning when they've been around a while.

Candles don't have to be white.

A little gold leaf adds just the right touch.

Or a few pressed flowers from your garden.

Reminds you of when everything was nice and green outside.

Ribbons and wrapping paper doesn't have  to be store bought.

A few stamps and a bit of paint will do.

And neither do you have to buy your Christmas Cards.

You can print your own. 

Maybe your style is more simple.

You're the Boss.

But whatever you do.   

Make it your own.
