Not enough time

It's all right.

I love what I see even if it isn't perfect.

Wild roses seeking support.

Salpiglossis are a challenge.

Poppies are amazing.

Yank out the entire plant, singe the stem and every poppy head will open. 

A poppy bouquet for a week. 

More rain than usual brought on the berries.

I have eaten the rest. 

I can grow figs in Utah ...in my greenhouse.

Nasturtiums grow easily from seed.

Who can resist an Opium Poppy?

The hay barns will be filled to the rafters.  

We will most likely have 3 crops of Alfalfa this year, 

who knows, maybe even four.

Mon Bouquet du Jour

The lowly Nasturtium

One of my most favorite flowers.

Long lasting cut flower.

Easy to grow

When placed in water will reach for the light. 

Will grow in my winter greenhouse.

First day, a week later, two weeks later. 

Even tight buds will open in water.

So, so many colors.

Easily grown from seeds.

Flowers and leaves brighten a salad.

This one, a favorite color. 

They arrange themselves so naturally.  Always pointing upwards. 

They even survive for days in florist tubes.  

I always plant a few Nasturtiums in pots.  
They do well in my greenhouse.  

All others have frozen in my garden.

It's a Jungle in there.

In my Greenhouse.

It's too early to take the Geraniums outside.  

Nasturtiums are even more tender.  They have provided me with lots of flowers during the winter months.  Don't want to lose them now. 

New Lemons are growing on my Tree.  I hand pollinated the blossoms.  My greenhouse is filled with their intoxicating perfume.  

This petunia doesn't know what color it wants to be.

Pear blossoms are beginning to show.

My show is only 2 weeks away.  I will be painting every day.

My Winter Greenhouse is waking up

The days are getting longer.

Nasturtiums have been blooming all winter.

My old Geraniums are filling in. 

This one is an Ivy Geranium.

The older the better... gives them so much character.

Every year I plant a few Iceland Poppies into pots so that I can have early flowers. 

Young and old live happily side by side.  

Nasturtiums come in so many fabulous colors.

This one doesn't count.  It's growing on my way to the greenhouse.

I always seed a few Morning Glories in pots.   Gives them a good start. They will trail out of  urns and reach the terrace floor by mid summer. 

All of the flowers in this pot are volunteers...always a nice surprise.

Do you know the name of this Flower?

It's growing in my greenhouse.

I bet you know what it is. 

Outside?  Don't ask.

It's dreary

But all is well in my Greenhouse.

Snow doesn't want to melt.
Pond freezes over every night.

My Nasturtiums are happy.  They love a cool greenhouse.

Boots and Mud and Dogs and wide open country

They all go together.

The Bull thought that Charlie, our big white dog, was getting too close to his Heifers.

We hightailed it to the next pasture.

I climbed over the gate, Lucy crawled under the gate and Charlie got stuck. 

I had to forcefully pull him out from under the gate. 

He limped for a while, I was worried that he was seriously hurt.

But after a few tentative steps he sauntered off, leg good as new. 

Last week I told you that Nasturtiums grow in water.

Same bouquet, the last picture, 7 days later. 

Every single bud opened, roses have long faded.

That reminds me.  Have you checked your wet potpourri lately?

Mine is ready and it smells divine.

Mon Bouquet du Jour

I was so happy to see my flowers still blooming upon our return from Europe.

 However, only two days later everything froze.

This happens every year and I should accept it without complaining.  We have a very short growing season. 

In a protected corner I found a few tender Nasturtiums blooming.

The Simplicity rose is a hardy little rose which will bloom into November in our area.

 Like the Tulip, the Nasturtium actually grows while placed in a container filled with water.

 However, unlike the Tulip, the Nasturtiums will  grow roots after being submersed in water for about 2 weeks.

Closed Nasturtium buds will grow and open while in water.

 Tiny root fibers will form. You can now pot them up in a pretty container filled with potting soil.

For me, during cold winter months, I am able to cut and enjoy many bouquets of lovely fresh flowers. 

 Many chefs and innovative home cooks like to include the leaf and flower of Nasturtiums in salads and other culinary endeavors. 

Note:  I just can't make myself eat ANY flower .  I feel that I need to apologize to the pretty little things. 

Nasturtiums are long lasting cut flowers.  They are charming by themselves or they can easily be paired with many other flowers.
