There is a reason

why I love Italy the way I do.

It's the water

Of the many lakes of Northern Italy, at the foot of the Alps.

Villa Carlotta
So plain on the outside but wait until you are allowed to go inside.

The top floor of Villa Carlotta is still occupied.  Her flag is flying when the Marquese is in residence.
The flag was flying the day we visited.

Fine silks in Bellagio, the pearl of the region.
I seldom succumb, but this time I came home with three beautiful, hand painted silk scarfs.

To see Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper was a privilege.

Next time I will not climb all the way to the top of the world's 3rd largest Duomo in Milan.
It is dizzying.

When in Milano one must visit Da Vinci, La Scala and the famous shopping mall and maybe the awe inspiring Duomo.

What I loved most of all were the waters of the many lakes.  They were pure and clean.  Every Body of water was crystal clear. Not a piece of paper, not a spot of oil on the water, no refuse of any kind.

I hope that one day you have an opportunity to visit this spectacular region of Italy.

  1. Buon giorno, Gina! I have been absent from your blog for way too long. Today, while playing around on the internet I came across some gorgeous hand-painted tiles and I thought of you and then, I couldn't remember the name of your blog. I sort of came close to your name: Gina Cramer... but I knew I had kept your business card and when I went into my row of business cards and other extraneous (trans: very important!) papers, my fingers grabbed hold of it like magic!!! So here I am and oh boy have I missed hearing about your travels and to view your colorful photos. I have visited Milano - and the lake regions - but not from the terrasse of the Villa Carlotta! I must agree with you about the water and how clean it is. How much better for those reflections of the surrounding hills and structures! I was there in 1967 and 1997 and ??? - hopefully in the near future!

  2. Buon Giorno Mary,
I am so pleased to hear from you. How wonderful that you were also able to experience this beautiful part of Italy.
I haven't been blogging regularly. I lost someone very dear to me early this year. My heart just hasn't been into blogging. In addition, there is so much to do around here. I am just now catching up on all orders from my Etsy shop. Now that the garden work is letting up a bit I will make time to spend a little more time with my blogging friends. I have missed being involved. Thank you for your charming comment. xo Gina

  3. I am stopping by for the first time in a couple of months. It's been a most difficult time, and I have more weeks, months possibly before my regular routine will return.

In the meantime, I stopped by at the perfect timing. I am sure that I have mentioned this before, but Italy is the one place that if I could I would travel outside of the USA, or Canada. I can no longer fly without going through great ear pain that lasts weeks after a flight.
Thus said I enjoy seeing what I would enjoy by visiting blogs like yours. I always love your photography...it's so vivid and alive, just like your amazing creations. This share is beautiful.

    1. Dear Mary,
I do hope that one day you will make it to Italy. I am so sorry to hear about your ear problems. I have heard about new treatments which include electro therapy. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it would work for you.

  4. Hi dearest, hope all is well there. See you are getting really chilly weather now. Meanwhile, until this morning (a cold front passed with wild storms in the night) we've been much too warm here since coming home and it doesn't even look like autumn yet!
I seem to be swamped with a lot of medical 'stuff' right now - annual this and that tests - plus not good news regarding my shoulder problem. I'll be seeing an ortho specialist in a couple of weeks!
Hope you are coping with the garden etc. and that Ms. Sadie is behaving now. Hoping you'll post again soon and share some pix - I love to see the house and pond as the seasons change.
Thinking of you - Mary (and Bob of course) with love xx

    1. Dear Mary (and Bob of course),
Yes, it has been very cold. But now it has warmed a bit. Enough so that I could plant a few Daffodils and Tulips. I am trying to work with a new computer. You know how that works. I have lost a few comments in some of the latest blog posts but nothing more serious so far. My computer was slowing down so much because I had way too many picture files.
I hope that your shoulder will get better soon. It is hard to do any kind of chores when your shoulder is so painful. It is not nice to get older. However, compared to me you are a Spring Chicken (and so is Bob).
