      Dear Rosemary, We did have a lovely day. Went to the local park and watched my friend receive 1st prize for her chocolate cake. An ice cream cone and a little drive into the countryside rounded off the day.

    Dear Gina,
    Independence is a wonderful state to be in, especially with a bowl of ripe cherries so lovingly presented.
    Did not see any fireworks last night but heard them from the distance.

      Dear Sieglinde, The birds are acting silly. They will rob us of all our cherries if I don't pick another bowl full. They should let me have just enough cherries for another cherry pie.
      Our town fathers put up a no fireworks notice, which made our dog Lucy very happy.
