Vividly, I remember my first day painting at the Scuola d' Arte Ceramica in Deruta, Italy
I painted the tile you see above on my second day of instructions
This is "my" desk at the Scuola
This tile was my first assignment. After a few hours of painting, Professor Nicola Boccini decided that I could move on to a more difficult pattern. This is the way the school tests your level of expertise.
I've painted at this fantastic school several times. Students walk in and out all day. They are encouraged to paint when they can. Always, the most revered Maestro, Romano Ranieri, is painting while keeping an eye on every student. He graciously offers his help whenever needed.
The Maestro gave me this beautiful book which contains many of his important works.
Forever I will cherish the lovely message he wrote.
And now you're in for a treat

Hello Gina:
ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely wonderful and your images of the various works so very clear.
Yes, an enormous treat to see some of the work of Romano Ranieri and we cannot quite decide between the examples you show of the Madonna and Child and/or the Still Life. Each one is so very beautiful and the colours so intense.
We can very well imagine that you are so much looking forward to returning in September.
A treat indeed! Beautiful work from both of you.

WOW! Thanks for giving us a taste of the school, and of the master's gorgeous work. I'm sure July will seem like a homecoming to you! Mark
ReplyDeleteExtraordinary artistry here - what a treat to see this work. You are so gifted yourself and pursuing your passion and your gift, which is just as it should be. Thanks for being an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAfter the busy summer time, I would imagine September to be a great time for your trip!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane and Lance, Because you love Italy why not visit Deruta and see some of these beautiful art works in ceramic.
ReplyDeleteDear Catherine, How kind of you and I thank you for such a lovely comment.
ReplyDeleteHi Mark, I knew that you would appreciate the Maestro's work. Can you imagine that these beautiful works of art are painted on a large ceramic slate. I was at the school when one of his more important pieces came out of the kiln. The entire school was involved.
ReplyDeleteDear Karen, Thank you so much. I hope that we will see more of your incredible photographs of South Africa. Your scenes are magic.
ReplyDeleteDear Francesca, You're right. There is so much to do before we go in September. Gardening, Canning and painting ceramics. We love going in September...it feels like we deserve it and we have had a few months to look forward to the trip and a few months for planning.
ReplyDeleteBreath taking! Starting my day seeing with these images is simply wonderful. Thank you Gina.

Sorry for the confusion Gina. I used my husband's lap top and did not realized I was signed in under his account. But the sentiment is shared.
