Gold or no Gold
If you have visited with me for a little while you know my preference for Gold.
Possibly, my early European training is to blame.
My house has many golden accents.
When spread out it's not quite so "gold."
A little gold is better than none?
Or would you prefer no gold at all?
Like this?
When I paint ceramics, the colors are fired to around 1800 degrees Fahrenheit (998 Celsius).
Gold is then added and fired again at a much lower temperature.
Gold is very temperamental.
I have a few extra plates with the wrong initials in my pantry.
Wishing you, my dear Blogging Friends,
lots of success in everything you do.
Gina
Dear Gina,
ReplyDeleteI love it with the gold.
Your designs are special.. I too used gold on some of my plates.
This is such a lovely post Gina. Your home is so so beautiful.
warm and cosy inside..now that you have snow and your lake is half frozen.
xx
val
Dear Val, So glad to know that I'm not alone in liking gold. It gives everything just the right amount of excitement. Still very cold here and the snow is very dry and powdery. It crunches under your feet. Right about now I'm thinking that Portugal is the place for me. ox, Gina
DeleteDear Gina,
ReplyDeleteHow about all of the above???!!!! Gold or no gold, your work is stunning. Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos--I agree with Val that your home looks like a perfectly cozy place to be!
Warm regards,
Erika
Dear Erika, Thank goodness for our heated floors. They make living in this cold valley tolerable. I have to keep reminding myself that Spring is coming... If it would just warm up a little we could, at least, go sledding. ox, Gina
DeleteWithout gold, the paintings lose some luster. Now, that does not mean the plates are not beautifully painted, quite the opposite.
ReplyDelete(Merisi, stating the obvious.)
DeleteCheers,

I like the large plate that Gene? is holding with the two little acorns, but for me the little extra touch from the gold completes the picture.
ReplyDeleteDear Rosemary, Yep, that is Gene holding the large plate. He is often called upon to be part of my endeavors. I agree with you, gold gives everything just that little extra special touch. xo,Gina
DeleteDear Gina - I could envision a very green wreath with just gold berries and a gold ribbon (but they all look great!).
ReplyDeleteSuch a good idea, Mark. You have given me great design ideas in the past. Do you need a new job?
Deleteox, Gina
My friend Sandy calls me her "colorist."
DeleteThere is more to this story Mark. Will you tell us?
DeleteI was very happy to have found this site. I wanted to thank you for this excellent post. I definitely enjoyed every little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff you post in the future

DeleteYES to the gold!!! Love it, I NEED one of those myself, love your work! And your home is specatcular!
ReplyDeleteDear Tina, I think that your plate, especially designed for you, should be painted in your favorite color, blue. And a bit or a lot of gold added, would be so perfect. ox, Gina
DeleteDear Kavin, So glad you found me. Thank you for your very nice compliments. Looking forward to your visits and comments. They are so appreciated. ox, Gina
ReplyDeleteDear Gina,
ReplyDeleteI must say a touch of gold even tiny or discreet (well...if gold can be discreet)always adds a bit of sophistication. I've just watched a movie with some shots taken in the palais de l'Elysée in Paris and I wonder what it must be like for the French president to walk through all those spectacular rooms adorned in gold...must feel a bit overwhelming but magical, non ?
That said, yes to gold on your plates !
xo
Lala
Dear Lala, The French President probably doesn't pay much attention to all the gold around him. But for us mortals I think that it would be magical. Thank you for letting me know that you also like gold. It does give everything just a bit of an edge. Have a wonderful week and thank you for your visit and comment. It is so appreciated. ox, Gina
