Cherries are on.

Where are the Robins?

My tree is laden with sour cherries.

Where are the Blackbirds?

There will be plenty of cherries for
Kirschwasser Likör.

And for winter pies.

For now I will bake a few little treats.
Just one bite and they are gone.

Cherries make great preserves.

Will I be lucky this year?
Will the birds leave the chokecherries for me?
They do make the best pancake syrup.

Have a great week, dear Friends,

Gina

  1. I have been fighting the birds for my raspberries this year. They get my dander up, so yesterday I made this banner and hung it over my blackberries hoping that it will keep them out. The raspberries are almost done and the blackberries are just starting to turn. I also moved my owl over there, but they usually just laugh at it. I'm sure the birds around here laugh at me too . . . silly woman, what will she think of next?

    1. Hi Connie,
We have also tried the plastic owl trick...it did not work. The next challenge will be keeping the wasps from my grapes. And then there a the deer who actually destroy our fruit trees.
Growing up in Europe I remember many a housewife pulling a string from her kitchen window. The string was attached to many plates in the trees which would make a lot of noise and would scare the birds.

  2. Dear Gina - Your cherries look just like jewels, and you are making so many delicious tasty treats with them too. In particular, for me, it is the preserve that is most tempting.

    1. Dear Rosemary,

I'm picking my cherries a little early because I know once they turn a dark red they will be gone from one day to the next. I will just have to add a little extra sugar to my preserves.

  3. Dear Gina,
I wish I had one of your small treats filled with cherries right now along with my cup of tea.......
Your crystal carafes filled with Kirschwasser Likör make for a lovely picture. When it comes to preserves though,I am a big fan of strawberries. All your photos are gorgeous.

    1. Dear Sieglinde,

Do you make your own strawberry preserves? Do you have a special recipe? One of our favorite preserves is apricot. Wish my apricot trees wouldn't freeze almost every year.

      Thank you for stopping by.

  4. Oh How delightful...little Cherry tarts, canned cherries, the preserves and oh yes a bit in the Likor must be wonderful as well. I miss my mother every day and I miss that she adored canning and had to room to do so. I don't have any room to venture out and so I am not able to try my hand, but oh to witness all that you do, is sweetness, pure and pure~

  5. Well Mary, You will just have to come this way and we can cook and bake and paint and go bird watching. What do you think?
Thank you for your lovely compliments. I am honored.

  6. Everything cherry looks so fabulous - and thoughts of apricot jam makes me think of my dear mother who made the best when I was a child!!!
I love the idea of clattering plates to scare off the marauding critters - maybe I should rig up something similar!

Time is getting short and each day I get more excited about August - so hot here and our a/c is still not working properly so am once again waiting. . . . . .and waiting for our guy to show up again. Hopefully today he'll make an appearance and I can get a good night's sleep without fans droning and blowing on me!

    Hugs - Mary OXOX

    1. Dear Mary,

We checked the AC in the guest cottage. It's working beautifully. There is plenty of shade under the "Picnic Tree" by the pond. There are many other shady places where the breezes flow through and the champagne is chilled to perfection. August is just around the corner. oxoxox, Gina
